KOLKATA: After the Americans, it is now the turn of the Chinese to be wowed by the prospects of the IT sector in West Bengal. For the first-time ever a 10-member business delegation from Shenzhen — one of the most prosperous regions in China — is specifically trooping down to the city to explore how closer links can be forged with West Bengal in the lucrative area of software development. The detailed agenda of the visit by the Chinese team led by Xie Huiquingo is still quite hush-hush (the Chinese apparently prefer operating that way). But what is known is that a meeting has already been scheduled with members of the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI) and state IT secretary G.D. Gautama on Thursday to discuss the possibilities of potential tie-ups. Confirming the meeting, Gautama said he is not surprised. "They are very good on the hardware front but have a lot of catching up to do in the software front."
