Chandigarh to have cyber security research centre

Chandigarh: A regional cyber security research center will be established here at a cost of 30 million.

The Chandigarh administration gave its approval for the setting up of the centre. Officials of the Department of Information Technology here said that the center would be set up in three years.

The center, to be established in collaboration with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) and Punjab Engineering College (PEC), would be housed later at the entrepreneurs development center of the IT park.

It will deal with all cyber security issues in collaboration with the IT industry. It will aid and advise organisations in cyber security policy enforcements, conduct of security audits and incident handling.

The center will also provide various IT organisations and the police department, consultancy for design of secure networks, including deployment of security administration software like intrusion detection, management of security software and vulnerability checking, protection against port scanners, password crackers and other issues.

It will also help companies and the police to train their personnel in countering cyber crime.
