Car of the Week: Mercedes B Class

Interior:

The black leather interiors of Mercedes B class is classy, and minute details like the contrasting stitching on the seats, doorpads and the aluminium highlights on the stalks are totally excellent. The dashboard has an elegant design and the SLS-style air-con vents and the AMG-style steering wheel gives it a lovely touch.

The seating position is perfect and it isn’t too high or too low. The seats are well cushioned and there is ample room for heads and knees, with particularly good provision for feet in the second row. However, the seat base of the rear seats is a tad short and the seat-back is a bit upright. It has enough storage space, with big door pockets, two reasonably big compartments in the centre console and a pretty big glovebox. It also includes big door mirrors and convex on both sides, which makes it quite usable.

The single stalk for the lights and wipers is placed on the left, and the cruise control stalk is just below it and the gearlever stalk is on the right of the steering wheel. The parking brake is no longer foot-operated, but electronically activated with a button on the dashboard. However, the COMAND system’s screen isn’t predominantly well integrated into the dashboard.

The Equipment levels are good too as it consists of USB and aux-in ports, climate control, leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and electrically adjustable seats. The boot at 486 litres is big and you get an enormous 1545 litres when you fold the rear seats. The low boot loading lip makes it easy to haul in luggage.
