CEO of Yureekah bats for KKR
Cricket has always been a game of grit and spirit. The one with the best of the grit wins at the end of the day. Vishal Sharma, Founder & CEO, Yureekah, believes that his favourite Kolkata Knight Riders have this grit and spirit. SI: Which of the eight teams do you think will win the IPL 2 Series and why do you think so? VS: The IPL T20/ II is a game of odds. You can't do strategy mapping to predict the winner here. Cricket has always been a game of grit and spirit. The one with the best of the grit wins at the end of the day. Going by this logic I would say the Kolkata Knight Riders have a good chance to win this time around. SI: Can you kindly narrate an anecdote or some interesting personal experience that highlights your association with cricket? {it could be your cricket experience during school/college days} VS: Cricket in India as we know is religion and it is no different for me. The first 20 years of my life saw a game of cricket each day and there have been several unforgetful experiences, but the one incidence that makes me nostalgic is when we played cricket under the lights the first time. We just could not believe the sight of a day/night match. To top my excitement we won the match. Few years later I experienced a similar feeling when we launched our product for the first time. SI: At the organizational level, do you think Cricket helps connect with people in informal way and cut-across teams/divisions? {You could talk about cricket teams in your own company} VS: Cricket has always been an ice breaker of sorts. It builds team bonding, leadership abilities, better communication, decision making and strategy building . This might seem big jargons but with cricket all these words can be implemented with ease. Si: Who is your favourite player and why do you admire him? Any management lessons you would like to draw and build an analogy? VS: Sachin for his focus, determination, consistency, presence of mind and decision making. Also Kapil Dev for his ability to build a team from scratch and make it into a winning team. And lastly one common quality which both of them possess- being down to earth. Aligning yourself with these great qualities makes a successful manager.
