CCEA okays Rs 692-cr spend on Neyveli Lignite

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved a Rs 691.83 crore investment for expansion of the transmission system of the Neyveli Lignite (NLC) in Tamil Nadu.
The investment includes an interest during construction component of Rs 41.35 crore for the expansion project of the transmission system associated with Neyveli Lignite Corporation-II.
Defence minister Pranab Mukherjee said the project would be completed within 35 months from the date of commencement. The work will start in 04-05 and be completed by 07-08.
The transmission project will facilitate discharge of power from the NLC-II expansion (2x250 MW) project and dispersal to various beneficiaries of the Southern region.
The CCEA also approved capital investment worth Rs 302.96 crore and completion cost of Rs 354.47 crore for the Kulda opencast project of Mahanadi Coalfields. The project has a target capacity of 10m tonnes per year to be achieved in the seventh year of operation.
