Buongiorno and BPL Mobile together launches the first XHTML micro browser

Mumbai: BPL Mobile together with Buongiorno has become the first Indian Telecom Operator to offer a complete new experience to its subscribers with its icon-based WAP site wap.mizone.bplmobile.com. Mumbai's service provider BPL Mobile and Buongiorno, a leading multinational in digital entertainment, have taken the lead to pioneer the XHTML technology. The look and feel of the BPL WAP site is icon based instead of text based. The complete content discovery process is a menu based grid. The technology provided by Buongiorno recognizes handset compatibility and then accordingly provides customized experience to every user. The WAP site comes with a host of features. It has Application adaptation by which if the handset supports a video streaming player, the WAP site would show MOBILE TV, content adaptation and renders different content to different users based on the ability of the handset. With Display adaptaion each handset will display the site with respect to its screen size. The platforms capability will allow the content to be rendered in the best fit mode according to the display screen size and other supported features. Commenting on the development from BPL's perspective, Sunzay Passari VP, VAS and Devices said "Currently, the WAP sites in India are not very user friendly, using WML as the language, wherein the user is dependent on the content available for him in the list." Milind Pathak, Co-CEO and Country Manager, Buongiorno (Hong Kong), India. further said, "The objective of all players in the VAS ecosystem is to provide rich quality experience to mobile subscribers and the use of XHTML service is another step in this direction". XHTML is a technology that is designed to accelerate the pace at which services can be created and improves the usability of wireless services for consumers. Globally, XHTML has already received tremendous industry-wide support and it has been announced to be the foundation of next generation WAP.
