Bharat Bandh Disrupted Business


Sharad Yadav the JDU President and Shahnawaz Hussain the BJP leader were among the 800 activists taken into custody for enforcing the bandh in Bihar. Yadav also exclaimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must resign immediately as he has failed to control the hike in petroleum products. Other leaders from JDU and BJP also took out processions in the state capital Patna.

The financial capital, Mumbai also faced the loss because of the bandh. 42 BEST buses were damaged and two drivers were injured due to stone pelting by the protestors at various places like Vakola, Charkop, Worli, Kalina, Versova and Vikhroli in Mumbai.

The protestors in West Bengal called by the NDA, blocked the roads and crouched on the railway tracks. Supporters blocked the Howrah Bridge and roads at Chapadali, Barasat, Bankura etc. The buses were also damaged in some places but still the buses, cars, taxis and trams were running less in number. There was no report of violence in the city, said the police sources. As the State government arranged for high security in the city and also issued a circular warning for government employees who supported the bandh.
