New Delhi: State-owned power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals BHEL) has won a 18.93 billion contract to set up a 700 MW power plant for GSPC Pipavav Power Company (GPPC) in Gujarat, the company said here Friday. GPPC is a subsidiary of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC). "Against stiff competition under international competitive bidding (ICB), the company has won a contract for setting up a combined cycle power plant in Gujarat on a turnkey basis for GSPC Pipavav Power Company," BHEL said in a statement. "Valued at 18.93 billion, the proposed plant is to be installed near Pipavav in Amreli district in the coastal Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The project will comprise two units of 350 MW each," the company said. "While the first unit will be commissioned by BHEL in 30 months, the second one is slated for completion in a schedule of 33 months. "The entire power generated by the project would be sold to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd to bridge the demand-supply gap in the power deficit state of Gujarat," BHEL added.
