BHEL bags 700 million turnkey contract

NEW DELHI: The state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a turnkey contract to set up a 400-KV grid substation in Tamil Nadu.

The order placed by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) for setting up a 400-KV grid substation at Allamathy near Chennai is valued at 700 million, the BHEL said in a statement Tuesday.

"The project is aimed at improving the power supply in Chennai and its adjoining areas and would be commissioned in a tight schedule of 18 months," it said.

The contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, testing, supply, erection and commissioning of 105 MVA transformers, current and capacitive voltage transformers, switchgear and associated auxiliaries.

Overseas, BHEL has executed a number of turnkey projects for setting up substations in Malaysia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya.
