Aspen launches fellowship for India

New Delhi: US-based think tank Aspen Institute Tuesday announced the launch of the India Leadership Initiative (ILI), a fellowship programme in collaboration Global Markets institute of international consultants Goldman Sachs.
Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia launched the new initiative at an event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
"India for very long time needed this kind of a programme which will help in developing new generation of value-based action-oriented leaders," said Tarun Das, president of Aspen Institute India.
The Indian programme is the latest addition to Aspen's network of leadership initiatives in partnership with local partners in 14 countries in Africa and Central America, besides the US.
Based on Henry Crown Fellowship, ILI would be focussing on business, government and civil society leaders.
Brooks Entwistle, chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs India, said: "We are very proud to invest in this leadership programme as I believe India has a proud human capital who can really contribute significantly to their respective fields."
The institute has selected 24 fellows from diverse backgrounds ranging from business, media, civil service, banking for the ILI programme from across India, between the ages of 30 and 45.
"I believe India has a tremendous talent pool which will benefit from these kind of programmes," said chairman of Ballarpur Industries Gautam Thapar who is the vice-chairman of Aspen Institute India.
The first seminar will take place in India Oct 25-29 and all the 24 fellows will participate in a programme comprising of multiple seminars and leadership development activities over a period of 18-24 months.
