Helsinki: For the first time ever Apple surpass Nokia as the world's largest phone vendor by revenue. This milestone has been achieved by Apple by its incredible revenue of $11.9 billion in the last quarter from iphones. While Nokia's revenue slipped down to $9.4 billion. Apple sold 18.65 million iPhones in its most recent fiscal quarter, up from the 16.24 million in the previous quarter. Perhaps more impressive is that the iPhone made up a little more than half of the company's $24.67 billion in revenue from the entire quarter. World's largest mobile handset maker Nokia recorded 1.4 percent fall in profit at 344 million euros in the first three months of 2011, amid market share in mobile devices falling. However a year ago the entity had a profit of 349 million euros. Faced with stiff competition and falling smart phone market share, Nokia hopes to revive its fortunes with Microsoft partnership. The Finnish entity would be using Microsoft''s Windows Phone 7 as the main software for its smart phones. This is the deal that will have the two companies working together to create Nokia hardware that runs Microsoft's Windows Phone mobile operating system. This announcement from Nokia to enter into its strategic partnership with Microsoft will pose serious competition to Apple in coming years. Moreover Apple is expected to lose ground to Google's Android. However Apple seems hopeful to lead the market. It will retain its number one position with its iPhone 3GS and specially iphone4 which has created a buzz all over the world.
