New York: Unveiling a new subscription service for magazines, newspapers, videos and music bought through its App Store, Apple announced that it will take 30 percent of subscriptions bought through the app store. But if the publisher brings the subscriber to the app through its own Web site or by other means, the publisher gets 100 percent of the subscription money. The plan necessitates publishers to set the price and length of subscription. The new service is in the same lines of the innovative digital subscription billing service that Apple recently launched with News Corp's 'The Daily' app. Although publishers are still permitted to sell digital subscriptions on their website without having to pay Apple, they have to provide their own authentication process inside the app for subscribers that have signed up outside of the app. Apple's process provides buyers the option of providing their name, email, and zip code.
