Anand: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, better known for its brand name Amul, is looking at a turnover of 65 billion this fiscal, a top official said here.

"The federation is looking at a turnover of 6,500 crore (65 billion) for the fiscal riding on more milk production from more number of farmers," said S.S. Sundaran, spokesperson of the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union, one of the 13 members of the federation.

The Gujarat Cooperative, which reported a turnover of 52.55 billion in 2007-08, is the country's largest food products marketing organisation and all its products are marketed under the brand name of Amul.

"We have targeted a sales turnover of 25 percent for the Kaira Cooperative this fiscal, but we have already surpassed that. At present, it is at 28 percent," Sundaran told IANS.

The Kaira Cooperative's turnover in 2007-08 stood at 10.77 billion.

At present, the federation, which ushered in the white revolution in the country, has 2.7 million producer members and a milk handling capacity of 10.21 million litres per day.
