Americans Not Interested in Indian Cars: Study
Bangalore: Although an array of new Indian and Chinese automobiles are all set to make their debut in the U.S. market in the fourth coming months, market research firm GfK Barometer of Automotives Awareness and Imagery study suggest that Americans are least interested to purchase a Chinese or an Indian vehicle. Only 30 percent of the American customers say they are open to buying a car from an Indian manufacturer whereas 38 percent stated they are ready to buy a car from a Chinese manufacturer. The new generation of America is not at all interested to opt for such vehicles; instead, they are open to buy vehicles out of new foreign markets. Only 29 percent of the young generation stated that they would like to buy a Chinese car, whereas 22 percent expressed that they would opt for an Indian Vehicle such as Tata Nano. Furthermore, the study also highlighted the fact that it took almost more than 15 years for the Americans to significantly increase their consideration to purchase Korean vehicles. A similar scenario is also estimated for the Indian as well as the Chinese vehicles. India's Mahindra & Mahindra last year announced that it intends to introduce diesel-powered Scorpio in the U.S. market; however, its original launch schedule has been delayed. Chinese automaker BYD also intends to unveil its e6 in the U.S. market as a rival to the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt. The e6 is expected to have a price tag of around $40,000. But those launch plans were also delayed.
