Airtel clocks profits of 12.5 bn

New Delhi: India's largest mobile service operator Bharti Airtel clocked robust growth in its net profit at 12.15 billion in the quarter ending December 2006, an increase of 123 percent compared to the same period last year. The consolidated total revenues grew by 62 percent at 49.13 billion and cash profit from operations increased by a whopping 108 percent at 21.37 billion in the quarter, said an Airtel statement Tuesday. The company also witnessed a massive increase of 92 percent in its total customer base by adding almost five million new subscribers, the highest-ever addition in a single quarter, it said. Airtel achieved an improved market share of 21.8 percent at the end of the third quarter of 2006-07.
