Air India: National Pride to National Shame?

According to the market share in April, Air India ranks fourth largest. But they still have to recover from their debts and other problems. They are cutting down of their services and have decided to operate only 38 flights instead of the 45. Many other airlines are making profits on the loss of the national carrier. Some of the other private airlines that have made profit are Jet Airways, Indigo, SpiceJet and GoAir.

These private Indian airlines are not the only ones who have gained due to Air India crisis but also the international airlines like Emirates have seen a profit in terms of more customer availability and thus more money. Emirates are leading other international airlines like Singapore Airlines, British Airways and Lufthansa.

Jitendar Bhargav the former Executive Director of Air India said, “Emirates has always enjoyed government confidence better than other carriers. They have always been able to get what they want from India, in spite of the fact that Dubai is no more witnessing a huge surge in manpower requirement from India. In this case, I think a no-objection certificate could have been obtained from Indian industry as a whole and someone should say we can't overlook Indian carriers before taking such decisions.”
