Acer CEO Lanci quits over future strategy issues

Bangalore: Acer CEO and President Gianfranco Lanci has stepped down from his post due to some divisive difference with the board of directors.
The decision came at a time when the company suffered huge losses as the low-cost netbook market has imploded and the company has warned that sales would be off 10 percent in the first quarter.
The Taiwan-based company announced that its current Chairman J.T. Wang will succeed Lanci as CEO. Analysts predict that Lnaci's absence would hurt the company in the short term, as he was the driving force behind its turnaround over the last ten years.
Acer, the world's No. 2 PC vendor, said Lanci and the board of directors placed different levels of importance on scale, growth, customer value creation, brand position enhancement, and on resource allocation and methods of implementation.
Lanci's views on a paradigm shift to mobile computing was the central point of difference while the board of directors wants to remain strongly focused on personal computers.
Lanci took over as CEO in 2004. According to Gartner, the company has grown under him to become the number two PC manufacturer in the world. However, the shares have fallen too low than expected at the emergence of tablets in the recent times.
