AIG to set up BPO centre in Kolkata

KOLKATA: American insurance company AIG will set up a business processing outsourcing (BPO) centre at Salt Lake, the state IT Minister Manabendra Mukherjee said while announcing the revised IT policy for 2003. The BPO centre will cater to the top-end US clients who will be serviced from this centre, he told reporters here today, adding that it will start functioning from November. Meanwhile, the state government's revised its IT policy for 2003 which aims to capture 15 per cent of the country's IT revenue by 2010. He said that the present policy was significantly different from the previous ones in the sense that a separate IT promotion cell would be set up besides an advisory council. The Minister said that the state government aims to network all the gram panchayats and municipalities within the next three years, for which the state government was having dialogues with various IT firms. The state IT department has also hired Ogilvy & Mather as PR consultant.
