Mumbai: Information security ranks as a priority for a majority of firms in India, with 93 percent of the organizations placing it in the 'high' to 'top' priority. The study points out that 25 percent of the firms have revealed that their system had been compromised at some points or the other, reports CXOtoday.
The findings based on the CXOtoday Information Security Survey 2009, shows that 38 percent of the firms have a separate Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), and the bigger the company, the more chances it had of having a CISO. The most common means of security breach were virus attacks via the Internet and through USB drives, however, companies having a CISO did not report major system threats in the recent past.
Of those surveyed, 64.5 percent preferred to keep security issues in-house instead of outsourcing. Though 92 percent of the interviewees said they regularly follow news related to security, only 11 percent had taken preventive measures to counter the Conficker worm threat.
