Samsung was sued by Apple for copying “the look and feel” of its iPad tablet and iPhone Smartphone. Apple’s claims for intellectual property infringement was phrased as, “Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products.”
In a landslide victory against Samsung, The jury on the 24th of August 2012, voted that nearly every one of Samsung’s devices infringed on Apple patents aside from its tablets. Samsung was found to owe Apple $1,049,343,540 in damages over trade dress and patent violations for iPhone and iPad. The damages were spread out over all of the various Samsung devices. After the lawsuit, Samsung got its required limelight and it went on to become the leader in Smartphones beating Apple on a global scale. But the highlight of the lawsuit was the internet meme which depicted Samsung paying Apple $1.05 Billion in 30 trucks loaded with 5Cent coins.
