7. John DuPont:

John E. DuPont, an American multimillionaire, was a convicted murderer. As a philanthropist and a member of the prominent du Pont family, he founded and directed the Delaware Museum of Natural History, which opened in 1972. DuPont was a sports enthusiast who bought status into the sporting arenas which his own physical capabilities could have never achieved. He became a prominent supporter for amateur sports in the United States and was a sponsor of Team Foxcatcher, an elite wrestling squad. In the year 1997 he was convicted of the third degree murder of his friend Dave Schultz, an Olympic wrestling gold medalist who lived at DuPont's wrestling camp. According to his defense, the millionaire believed Schultz was part of a giant, international conspiracy to assassinate him. He was ruled to have been mentally ill but not insane and was sentenced to prison, where he died thirteen years later.
