7.Vembanad Lake Vemband Lake is the longest lake in India and largest in Kerala. The lake covers different districts of Kerala and is known by different names. The part spanning Kuttanad region is called Punnamada Lake and the part intruding into Kochi (Cochin) is Kochi Lake.

Vembanad Lake is at the heart of Kerala Back Waters tourism with a number of house boats crisscrossing it and numerous resorts nestling on its banks. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is located on the east coast of the lake. The lake is famous for its scenic beauty and has become a major tourist attraction. The Vembanad Lake is well connected with the inland canal system. The Kottapuram-Kollam segment of the west coast canal system has major channel passing through Vembanad Lake and spans around 209 kms. It is a national waterway.
