Schimdt appealed to the government to change its focus towards the positive side about the Internet. He focused on the choice between open and closed web. In the next ten years, almost one billion of the world’s new Internet users will come online in India he points out.

He also added saying, "My guess would be that having been satisfied with the great success of IT, the Indian government and the leadership has made the same mistake that companies do, they rested on their own laurels." Around 150 billion, out of country’s 1.2 billion population have access to the Internet.

When questioned which country has more potential, whether India or China, Schimdt replied, "In the short term, focus is on China but math favours India and I'm a mathematician."
