The Bhopal gas Tragedy also cased 558,125 injuries, which included 38,478 temporary and about 3,900 severe and permanent disabling injuries. The civil and criminal cases are still pending in the U.S. District Court and the District Court of Bhopal till date. The gas leak accident was so severe that its impact is still hovering around Bhopal. The reasons quoted for the gas leak include: storing methyl isocynate (MIC) beyond the recommended limits, poor maintenance of the gas tanks, failure of safety measures, and switching off of the safety systems to save money. The abandoned chemicals at the plant still pollute the ground water, for which the dispute is ongoing.
