His ‘villain’ role in the movie Parinda was widely noticed by the bollywood industry and it helped him earn recognition from all over, including the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

But when it comes to dancing, Patekar loses all the charisma and he has admitted the fact many times that dancing is not meant for him.

Prior to the release of the movie, 'Shagird'(released in the year 2011), where the actor played the role of a Delhi police cop, Patekar said, "I loved working in the movie because it is very realistic. I prefer doing such roles rather than dancing around trees. That is just not me’’.
