5 Silly Computer Glitches That Caused Epic Disasters

5. Oops! We forgot about the dateline.

We are all familiar with the concept of the world being divided into time zones. Imagine if the designers of a heavy duty fighter plane forget to incorporate this into their design. Somebody is going to need parachutes.

The disaster:

12 brand new F-22 Raptors which were collectively worth about $66 billion were almost lost while they were on their first international flight to Okinawa. The US air force fighter planes were about to crash because their navigation systems had gone haywire without any prior warning.

These engineering marvels were like lost kites in the air because their access to fuel, speed and altitude gauges were completely disruptive. Had they hit any cloud bank it would have been one of the silliest tragedies. Thankfully the 12 raptors reached their destination safely.

The silly glitch:

The designer of these engineering marvels had completely forgotten about the International Date Line. Lockheed Martin the designer had blissfully forgotten that gadgets go nuts when they enter different time zones.

This negligence could have literally burnt $66 billion.
