Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also has a presence on social media. He has around 2, 49, 174 followers on Twitter. In February Omar had tweeted "If J&K Assembly had passed a resolution similar to the Tamil Nadu one for Afzal Guru would the reaction have been as muted? I think not," as reported by The Indian Express. The tweet came after the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed an unprecedented resolution asking the President to reconsider the mercy pleas of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's killers.

While our politicians are using the social media platforms to communicate their message to the masses and to connect with the youth, it can be hoped that they leverage the power of social media in the right way.
