The Hadron collider is undoubtedly the world’s largest and most powerful particle smasher. The 27-kilometer circular tunnel running 175 metres underground at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) near Geneva is built to address the unsolved questions of Physics along with the birth and evolution of universe and also the earth.
The large Hadron Collider smashes protons together at light speed, thereby creating powerful energy particles, which even has the capacity to create a black hole that can swallow the earth completely. The first ever experiment in the collider went off beam with a helium leak that forced it to be shut down for almost a year. But later it was successfully made operational. The facility will reportedly shut down in 2013 to upgrade the energy capacity.
