5 Indian Startups That Made It Big with Mobile Phone's Boom

#4 MOBIKWIK Founder: Bipin Preet Singh

Almost more than half of the Indians have a prepaid phone connection. When the balance gets over, especially in the weird hours of the day, it’s a tedious task to find an open shop to get the recharge done. This wait without a talk-time is tiring and irritating.

This sparked a great startup idea for Bipin Preet Singh. He launched MOBIKWIK; an online recharge site for Indians which included almost all the leading networks in usage in India. It is supported by hosts of leading and popular banks for smooth and safe transaction. The hassle free app took a seed capital of around 8 lakhs from Bipin’s pocket to come into reality and it aims to reach 15 million customers by the end of 2014. Singh says the growth of MOBIKWIK depends on the changing trends which include Smartphones becoming a smart choice for most of the Indians and the country is all set to become a third-largest market for Smartphones in coming years.
