5 Popular Events in 2012 That Amazed India

Anti corruption movement
The anti corruption movement in 2012 is a protest across the country demanding a corruption free government in India. It was first started in 2011. In March 2012 the movement was reiterated by Anna Hazare’s fasting at the first mass gathering at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. This year the social activist turned politician Arvind Kijriwal has taken the lead and also formed apolitical party called the Aam Aadmi Party to battle against corruption. The movement has thousands of volunteers at the grassroot level fighting for a national cause. The demands stated by Anna Hazare’s team, known as ‘Team Anna’ is to create a strong and independent janlokpal which means to resort an anti-corruption legislature and enforcement body. The movement has obtained momentum across the country. However the objective of getting the lokpal and lokayukta bill passed is still unfulfilled. Arvind Kijriwal’s party has kept a close tab on the activities of the many politicians and influential personalities and questioned the actions that reek of corruption. The anti corruption movement has little or no effect over the unscrupulous officials who still continue to function degenerately, however the movement does aims to change this practice for better.
