Balasaheb Thackeray
Bal Thackeray was the political chief of the Shiv Sena Party which is a marathi ethnocentric party in Maharashtra. The Shiv Sena chief demised on 17 November 2012. He died of cardic arrest, aged 86. He had started his career as a cartoonist in Mumbai with the English daily ‘The Free Press Journal’. Thackeray formed the Shiv Sena Party in 1966 to promote the place of Maharastrians in the political and professional landscape of Mumbai. By forming temporary alliance with almost all the political parties in Maharashtra Thackeray he built the party. The Marathi language newspaper ‘Saamana’ along with the Hindi language newspaper was started by Thackeray. His life has been a subject to many controversies and such is the case with his death too when the Facebook comment led to the arrest of two girls in Mumbai. He was honored with a state funeral on his death. His death is seen as the biggest news in Maharashtra's political circle in 2012.
