New York: One of the biggest vulnerability fix in Microsoft's history, the last patch Tuesday of the year 2010 will see the company fixing around 40 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, SharePoint, and Exchange, reports Jose Vilches for Techsport.
17 bulletins addressing the total of 40 vulnerabilities are planned to be issued by the company according to its advance notification for the December batch of updates. While 14 are designated as important and one is rated moderate, two have a maximum critical rating according to the firm. One of the patches that is about to come will close the last remaining vulnerability being exploited by the not so famous Stuxnet worm.
One or more non-security, high-priority updates will be there along with the usual update for the Windows Malicious Software Removal tool as well as Windows Mail Junk Filter. Microsoft Security Response Center director, Mike Ravey, offered a look back at 2010 bringing forth that the latest round of security bulletins puts the total at 106 for the year which is an increase of 43 percent from the 74 security bulletins deployed in 2009 according to his blog post. December's Patch Tuesday brings the total number of security bulletins released by Microsoft in 2010 to 106, its highest number yet which according to Reavey isn't really surprising when thought about product lifecycles and the nature of vulnerability research. More details will be available with release of the patches tomorrow.
