4 Disturbing And Avoidable Linux Distros

Red Star OS:

Here is one of the first politically powered Linux distributions, the Red Star OS. A distribution of choice in North Korea, this project began in 2002 as a proposition to overthrow country’s dependence on Microsoft Windows, which was the primary OS of choice in the country up until then.

The operating system comes in Korean and also features a modified version of Mozilla Firefox called Naenara. Actually the prime use with this operating system was to connect the web browser to country’s intranet know as Kwangmyong, which practically is a big walled internet world that has no bridge to the standard internet we know and love.

Red Star OS uses KDE 3 and is currently moving onto its second version. This operating system basically can be found across universities, libraries and other institutions. Another interesting fact about the internet in North Korea is that private computer ownership is quite not common.
