20 percent IT companies to use Cloud in 4 years
Bangalore: Nearly 20 percent of the companies across the world will not own any IT asset in the coming four years according to latest study by Datacraft. In fact, most Indian companies are also progressively moving away from capex and opex-based models, reports N Vasudevan of Financial Chronicle. William Padfield, CEO of Datacraft, said that cloud computing is changing the commercial model of the companies. "Indian firms are shifting towards variable cost model by getting access to IT by adopting the pay-per-unit model," he said. Presently, most clients in India pretty much virtualise their storage. Padfield added that virtualisation of service and data centre has started and desktop virtualisation is still in infancy stage. Datacraft has been increasing investment every year since 2003 in India, and also plans to increase its headcount in India by 20 percent. The company has started focusing on the public sector, in addition to banking and finance, media and communications, manufacturing, travel and transportation. "Security concerns of being on cloud primarily come from banking and finance sectors, while companies in manufacturing, drug research, and government agencies have concerns about intellectual properties. Public cloud poses more security concerns than private cloud, the end game will be the hybrid of public and private cloud computing," Padfield said.
