20 Indian States with Highest Electricity

5. Pondicherry

Union Territory

Population: 1,244,464

Percentage of houses having electricity in 2011: 97.7%

The union territory which almost feels like Cannes features fifth in the list with a whopping 97.7 per cent of houses which use electricity. It is also known as "The French Riviera of the East". A reason for this may be because Pondicherry is very famous on the tourism map and the officials cannot afford to irritate the tourist with bad electricity supply.

6. Goa

Capital: Panaji

Population: 1,457,723

Percentage of houses having electricity in 2011: 96.9%

Yet another tourist spot features on the list of the highest electrified houses list. The state with rolling beaches finds itself sitting comfortable at the sixth position with 96.4 per cent houses being electrified. Yet another fact that helps Goa feature on this list is its size. The state is just 3,702 sq-km.  In fact Goa is the smallest state in India with fourth smallest population. Goa is India's richest state with a GDP per capita two and a half times that of the country as a whole.
