18. TRON
When TRON was released in 1982, it was a breakthrough not only in how computers were portrayed on screen, but how computers and technology were used in the creation of motion picture. It was one of the first major uses of CG in a film and the graphics were mind-blowingly cutting edge.
It didn’t get a warm reception though and was also kept out from the technical categories at the Academy Awards because the way it was made was considered cheating. But the geeks were enthralled and many wished they could enter a computer game.
17. Hackers
It’s a rare film that glorifies and completely misrepresents hackers. While every geek on the planet acknowledges it was the worst representation of anything computer related, that hasn’t stopped anyone from loving it. It’s got action geeks everywhere; an insane outfit, gorgeous people, and was a world that we all wished being a geek was really like. It became something of a cult classic.
