$1.6 Billion data center to be world's largest
Bangalore: Scotland may soon have the world's largest data center, 'Alba 1'. Internet Villages International (IVA) has proposed to build the $1.6 billion data center in Dumfries and Galloway, in Scotland. Scotland is a hotbed for data centers as it has the open space required for construction and along with a technically skilled workforce. The site will host large warehouses full of computer servers and networking equipment that can store information accessible on the internet and deliver across U.K. and Europe. As per plans, Alba 1 will run off power provided by a nearby biomass plant and local wind farms. By providing around 3 million square feet of server space, Alba 1 can become the world's largest existing data centres if it opens in 2010 as planned.
