149.5 million wireless subscribers in the country

New Delhi: The Telecom section in the country is on a high. This is because the annual number of subscriptions in 2006 has increased three times the additions in 2004. Moreover, the teledensity has also increased by 100 percent in the same period. According to the figures issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India it increased from 8.62 in December 2004 to 17.16 percent in December 2006.The wireless segment got an additional 6.48 million subscribers in December 2006 in comparison to 6.8 million in November 2006 thus leading to the total number of wireless subscribers to a all time high of 149.5 million.
