13 Tech Companies That Changed The World, Then Got Buried

#11 Sun Microsystems

Sun Microsystems was a company that sold computers, computer components, computer software, and information technology services and that created the Java programming language, and the Network File System (NFS). Sun significantly evolved several key computing technologies, among them Unix, RISC Processors, Thin Client Computing, and virtualized computing.

On January 27, 2010, Sun was acquired by Oracle Corporation for US$7.4 billion. The following month, Sun Microsystems was merged with Oracle to become Oracle America, Inc, losing its complete identity.

#10 Polaroid

Polaroid is most famous for its instant film cameras, which reached the market in 1948, and continued to be the company's flagship product line until the February 2008 decision to cease all production in favor of digital photography products.

The company also was one of the early manufacturers of digital cameras, with the PDC-2000 in 1996; however, they failed to capture a large market share in that segment.

On October 11, 2001, Polaroid Corporation filed for bankruptcy. Almost all the company's assets including the "Polaroid" name itself, which had become almost synonymous with instant photographs, were all sold out.

The present Digital camera’s evolution has its beginning in Polaroid.
