11 Greatest Tech Charities

#3 TechAccess

Children of color are facing much discrimination and are underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. Given how many children of color are currently living in low-income, low-education districts, the gap seems to be growing. TechAccess looks to tackle the persistent "color gap" by giving tech access and tech education to kids in minority-heavy, lower-income districts. The programs have a college focus, and students from the program's new TAF Academy partnerships have matriculated at colleges and universities like Bard and Xavier.

#2 Code For America

The Washington Post described Code for America as "the technology world’s equivalent of the Peace Corps or Teach for America."

It helps governments work better for everyone with the people and the power of the web. Jennifer Pahlka is the founder and executive director of Code for America, which works with talented web professionals and cities around the country to promote public service and reboot government.

Through three programs Code for America helps local governments harness the internet. Through the Fellowship, Code for America connects developers and designers to local government. Through the Accelerator, Code for America provides seed funding, office space, and mentorship to civic startups. Through the Brigade, Code for America helps local, community groups reuse civic software.
