11 Scientists Honoured With Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize 2012


Govindsamy Mugesh of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc):

Govindasamy Mugesh won the prize in the area of chemical sciences. Earlier this year he had also won the AstraZeneca Young Investigator Award for his contributions in organic chemistry. He had focused on understanding the chemistry and biology of medicinally important metalloproteins.

Ravishankar Narayanan of IISc:

Dr. Ravishankar won the prize in the engineering sciences category. He has obtained his M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees from IISc, Bangalore. After his Ph. D., he was a Post Doctoral Researcher and then Research Associate with Prof. Barry Carter's Research Group at the University of Minnesota. Currently, he is on the faculty of the Materials Research Centre.

Y Shanthi Pavan of Indian Institute of Technology-Madras:

Dr. Shanthi Pavan too bagged the prize in the engineering sciences category. His research interests constitute the areas of high speed analog circuit design and signal processing. Dr. Shanthi Pavan is the recipient of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Darlington Best Paper Award (2009), the DST Swarnajayanthi Fellowship (2010) , the Young Faculty Recognition Award from IIT Madras (2009, for excellence in teaching) , the Technomentor Award from the India Semiconductor Association (2010) and the Young Engineer Award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering (2006).
