Jack Harker: (1926-2013)
Originally known as John Mason Hacker but always known as Jack, who is known to be one of the major contributors in the development of magnetic disk storage system, he was part of the original IBM engineering team.
Jack who was born 1926 in San Francisco, was also part of the U.S. Navy during World War II, he received his BA in Mechanical Engineering from the Berkeley, and Masters in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
Harker who spent over 35 years in IBM and later went on to become a director of technology for IBM, he was also director of IBM San Jose Storage Laboratories twice and an IEEE guy. He also summarized his career in a simple way by saying, “It isn't often someone gets an opportunity to see an industry get born. Or to participate in its beginning, participate in its formative years, and then still be around to see it become a major worldwide industry."
Douglas C. Engelbart :(1925-2013)
The American engineer and inventor, who had the early advantage to work on computer and internet, he is best known for his work on the challenges of human- computer interaction, particularly his Augmentation Research Centre Lab In Sri International, which also resulted in the invention of the computer mouse, and the development of the hypertext, networked computers, and precursors to graphical user interfaces. Which were later demonstrated in the year 1969.
