Jerry Yang is a Taiwanese-born American internet entrepreneur and David Filo Is an American businessman and engineer who wrote Filo server program used to dynamically serve variable web pages.
Both were electrical engineering students at Stanford University, when they created a site “Jerry’s guide to the world wide web”, which was a dictionary indexing to other websites, organized in a hierarchy. In March 1994 the website was renamed as “Yahoo”, and ‘Yahoo.com” domain was created on January 18, 1995.
Why their partnership worked:
Yang and Filo had mutual passion for web. During their engineering days they used to skip the classes while working on designing computer chips and browse. They nearly spent 20 hours a day browsing web for fun. Eventually Stanford punted them off campus for their “lists” crashed the computers on campus. The incidence intern lit the idea, and both had something big to do on their hands.
