The user base of Turntable started dropping down, the figures were disruptive. From around 130,000 users in November 2011, it became 80,000 in September 2012. Despite this drop, the company also made apps for iPhone and Android which did not help the startup.

"We've actually been working on a lot of new stuff that is coming soon," says Billy Chasen, CEO of Turntable.fm

Shopkick

Shopkick gained immense popularity after the launch of its iPhone app in 2010. It uses the concept of checking in, users can check in to different places using the app and gain great rewards. This startup has also partnered with various retailers including Target, Best Buy and Macy’s and it has a massive user base of 3.7 billion.

The startup has been working on an app for almost nine months which the CEO claims it to be "the next generation of Shopkick."

"That app will be a significant step for us because basically we took all the learning’s we've had from two years and all the data and turned it into a re-imagined Shopkick, It will make it so that Shopkick will be awesome already before you go shopping. It will build a really cool stretch into the store and make your store experience much better once you are there," says Cyriac Roeding, CEO of Shopkick.
