Requiem for a Dream (2000)
A cult drama, Requiem for a Dream was directed by Darren Aronofsky. The movie was based on Hubert Selby, Jr.'s novel of the same title. The movie depicted different forms of addiction leading to the characters' captivity in a world of mirage and irresponsible anxiety that is consequently overtaken and overwhelmed by reality.
This outstanding movie lost to the highly overrated and inconsistent sprawling epic Gladiator.
