The Mahindra Group of Industries was co founded by Kailash Chandra Mahindra, his Elder brother Jagdish Chandra Mahindra and a close friend Ghulam Mohammad. It was originally known as the Mahindra and Mohammad Group at the time of its advent in pre independence India. After the partition when Ghulam Mohammad left for Pakistan leaving the group in the supervision of the two brothers, the company was renamed to Mahindra and Mahindra. JC Mahindra is always known to be the one with the dream, but all the meticulous implementations of his idea and the sophistication in handling the people and management of the group of industries is credited to younger brother Kailash.
