Tokyo ranks fourth on the list of cities that matter to HNWIs. Its ranking on economic activity is 3; political power - 6, quality of life – 23, and knowledge and influence -13.

It has been described as one of the three "command centers" for the world economy, along with New York City and London. It was also named the third Most Livable City in 2009.
