Markus Hess: International Spy and Hacker

In 80’s at a time when computer security was an unexplored field Marcus Hess a German Citizen was recruited by the KGB (a Soviet Intelligence agency) to be an international spy tasked with breaking into U.S. military computers to obtain classified information.

Hess at that time was a computer prodigy who was best known for his endeavors as an effective hacker. He took advantage of loopholes in computer systems to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information and succeeded in exploiting the vulnerabilities of 400 U.S. military computers, including those at military installations in Germany and Japan. Hess was found guilty of espionage and sentenced to one to three years in prison.
