Naperville: Tellabs, a provider of telecommunications networks solutions, has introduced a new 40 Gigabyte (GB) transponder module for the Tellabs 7100 Optical Transport System (OTS). This transponder gives providers the ability to increase the bandwidth available on their existing networks without extensive network redesign or reconfiguration.
While other 40 GB solutions require the installation of additional stand-alone hardware- the equivalent of building new roads, the new 40 GB transponder plugs into the network?s existing Tellabs 7100 OTS switches, resulting in a 300 percent increase in capacity.
Through this simple upgrade, the Tellabs 7100 OTS delivers an increase in bandwidth from 440 GB to 1.76 Terabyte (TB). This increase prepares networks to offer HDTV, video-on-demand and high-speed Internet access.
"Now, you don't need to redesign your existing network to meet the increasing bandwidth demand from video and other bandwidth-hungry services," said Dan Kelly, Executive Vice President of global products for Tellabs. "The new 40 GB transponder module for the Tellabs 7100 OTS enables service providers to save money as they provide better service to their customers," he added.
The Tellabs 7100 OTS family now offers 1.76 TB of bandwidth capacity in a compact footprint. In fact, the Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS is just half the size of other comparable systems.
The Tellabs 7100 OTS is currently available, and the new 40 GB transponder module will be available in June 2008. The Tellabs 7100 OTS is an integral part of the Tellabs AssuredEthernetSM solution.
