Provider of UNIX software technology and mobile services SCO Group, Inc. (SCO) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Gujarat, under the aegis of "Vibrant Gujarat" investor summit, to form a new venture called Me Inc India. The new joint venture will be located in the state of Gujarat and will focus on harnessing Me Inc mobile technologies to offer mobile enterprise solutions in the cities. The new entity will also work towards bridging the digital divide in the rural areas. While Indian cities have seen rapid Internet proliferation over the last few decades, the heartland of the country is still largely unconnected. In these rural interiors of India, mobile connectivity is a necessity rather than a luxury. Me Inc. will seek to cater to this untapped market. Me Inc is expected to start the marketing, sales and distribution of their mobile enterprise solutions in the country by April this year. Sandy Gupta, CTO and general manager of the SCO Group, said that with a profusion of new and smarter mobile devices entering the market, an enterprise can no longer afford to be limited by physical space constraints. “Devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs now allow real-time direct access to corporate networks. The Me Inc platform enables business transactions from even remote locations and supports field force automation through PDAs, laptops, mobile phones and tablet PCs, thus creating a truly mobilized workforce." Subodh Rustagi, country manager of SCO India and SE Asia, said, "The BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) market in general and India in particular represent a very strategic region for value added mobile services for the SCO Group.”
